"MOTHER AND CHILD"
mother loon and  baby

inside of card is blank
back of card reads

Loons usually lay two eggs in June.  The chicks are fuzzy little balls of brown-black.  Although they are capable of swimming, they spend a fair amount of time on their parents' backs, warm and safe from water-going predators.  Their parents feed them until about two months of age, when they begin to dive for their own food.  By summer's end the chicks are ready to migrate with their parents.
