Early in my
stained glass days I was very fortunate
to meet the mother of one of my high school students who was, and
is, an extremely talented second generation glazier. Linda
Maxwell
was very generous with her knowledge and shared with anyone willing
to learn. Despite a very busy work schedule of her own, she and a
couple of her cohorts even came and taught in my school classes.
We were a very fortunate bunch!
In 1995 Linda approached me to design a large altar
window for a local church, Our Lady of the Assumption. Several stained
glass artists were asked for designs, and then the church would
choose. When I design for her, Linda does not restrict me to the
rectangular design structure typical of the large lead windows of
old. Because of her ingenuity and thorough understanding of glass
weight, strength, structure, and integrity, she knows how to fortify
and rebar her work in unique ways to make my designs work. In
addition to this, Linda is well known for searching out and using
exceptional and superior choices
of glass in
her work - glass not commonly found in the average glass store.
The result was a beautiful 5 panel altar piece master-minded by Linda
and
built by herself and a small crew of women. I did the glass
painting
that
was required.

In 1997
Linda and I collaborated on a second major project. A new church,
St. Peter's, was built in Milk River, Alberta and Linda was
hired to build the windows. I designed the windows, and did the
airbrushing and painting of the faces and backgrounds (with much
encouragement from Linda). The result, again, from Linda and this
time her
crew of one, Pam Ptycia, is fantastic.
